(ka-rè) s. m.
Tortue des côtes de l'Amérique, du Mexique, des côtes de la Guinée et de la mer des Indes, dont la chair est malsaine ; mais les oeufs en sont recherchés, et on travaille l'écaille.

   Fil de caret, gros fil qui sert à fabriquer les cordages pour la marine.
   XVe s.
   Laquelle femme filoit au tour ou charet, DU CANGE charetum..
   Prononciation picarde de charet, diminutif de char (voy. char), par assimilation d'un dévidoir à un chariot.
