(san-tri-fu-j') adj.
Terme de physique. Qui tend à éloigner d'un centre. Force centrifuge, celle qui fait qu'un corps mû rapidement en rond tend à s'échapper.
   Dieu a donné à la matière brute la force centrifuge, VOLT. Dial. 25.
   Terme de botanique. Inflorescence centrifuge, disposition par laquelle les pétales s'éloignent du centre. L'évolution florale des dorsténies est centrifuge.
   Latin fictif centrifugus, de centrum, centre, et fugere, fuir (voy. fuir).
