Terme de pêche. Grand filet qu'on traîne dans les rivières entre deux bateaux.
   XIVe s.
   Comme ils se fussent mis en un chalon ou bateau, lequel ils trouverent en la riviere de Mayne, DU CANGE chelandium..
   Chalon, bateau, se rattache peut-être au bas-latin calones, barques portant le bois aux soldats (voy. chaland 2) ; mais chalon, filet, est-il le même ?
