(al-lo-fo-n') adj.
Terme d'assyriologie. Se dit de groupes de signes phonétiques empruntés par les Assyriens à la langue des inventeurs de l'écriture cunéiforme et qu'ils introduisaient dans leurs textes comme des idéogrammes ; ces groupes avaient une prononciation bien établie dans cette langue, seulement les Assyriens les acceptaient comme expression écrite, mais ils les prononçaient autrement.
   Des groupes phonétiques assyriens sont également passés dans les textes de peuples qui ont pris l'écriture cunéiforme des mains des Assyriens, mais ces peuples les prononçaient suivant leur propre langue ; c'étaient pour eux des allophones.
   M. Ménant a créé ce mot, qui vient du grec, autre, et, voix.
