(èf-flo-rè-ssan, ssan-t') adj.
   Terme de botanique. Qui est en voie de floraison. Plantes efflorescentes.
   Terme de chimie. Qui tombe en efflorescence. Sels efflorescents, sels qui à l'air perdent tout ou partie de leur eau de cristallisation, deviennent opaques et tombent quelquefois en poussière.
   Qui est revêtu d'une couche saline, comme les murs salpêtrés.
   Qui est couvert d'un oxyde métallique, comme quelques mines de cobalt ou de manganèse.
   Lat. efflorescens, de efflorescere, de ex, et florescere, fleurir, de flos, fleur (voy. fleur).
