Nom languedocien de certaines fontaines temporaires.
•   On a peine à comprendre, au premier abord, qu'une fontaine temporaire, coulant à un ou deux kilomètres en amont d'une source pérenne, se trouve cependant située sur le même cours d'eau souterrain, et n'est pour l'orifice inférieur qu'une espèce de soupape de dégagement ; ces fontaines supplémentaires sont désignées en Languedoc par le nom d'estavelles, récemment introduit par M. Fournet dans le langage scientifique, É. RECLUS la Terre, I, p. 315.
