(goi-tr') s. m.
   Tumeur qui se développe au devant de la gorge dans le corps thyréoïde.
   Elle avait le cou long [la duchesse de Bourgogne] avec un soupçon de goître qui ne lui seyait point mal, SAINT-SIMON 321, 194.
   Terme de zoologie. Expansion cutanée qui pend sous le cou de plusieurs reptiles sauriens.
   Pourquoi l'Académie met-elle un circonflexe sur goître et goîtreux ? Rien n'exige ni n'explique cet accent.
   XVIe s.
   Gongrona signifie ce qu'on dit en françois gouetre ou gouetron, PARÉ VI, 9.
   Les escrouelles en Espagne, le gouetron en Savoye, PARÉ XXIV, 1.
   Lat. guttur, gosier, gorge. L'ancien français disait goitron au sens de gosier.
