grandiose
(gran-di-ô-z') adj.
   Qui frappe l'imagination par son caractère de grandeur, de noblesse. Cette architecture est d'un style grandiose.
   Depuis deux ans, j'ai présenté à l'Académie une série de travaux sur la figure des comètes et l'accélération de leurs mouvements, et j'ai montré que ces phénomènes grandioses accusaient nettement dans les espaces célestes l'existence d'une force nouvelle totalement différente de la gravitation, FAYE Comptes rendus, Acad. des sc. t.    S. m. Caractère grandiose.
   La baie de Naples.... et toute cette terre virgilienne présentent un spectacle magique ; mais il n'a pas, selon moi, le grandiose de la campagne romaine, CHATEAUB. Italie, à M. de Fontanes..
