(gran-jé, jè-r') s. m. et f.
Celui, celle qui tient une ferme, à la condition de partager le produit des champs avec le propriétaire.
   Elles baisaient de temps en temps les mains de la grangère, J. J. ROUSS. Confess. IV.
   XVIe s.
   Le metaier est ainsi appelé en France de metairie ; et en Dauphiné, granger, de grange ; l'un et l'autre edifice, au dit païs, signifiant une mesme chose, bien qu'en France la grange ne soit que partie de la metairie, O. DE SERRES 61.
