(i-ni-bi-sion ; en vers, de cinq syllabes) s. f.
Terme de jurisprudence. Opposition à, défense.
   Sa Majesté a fait très expresses inhibitions à tous nobles de son royaume de signer la prétendue requête, SAINT-SIMON 463, 18.
   Il se joint souvent avec le mot défense, et il est plus usité au pluriel qu'au singulier.
   INHIBITION, PROHIBITION. L'inhibition s'applique aux actes que l'on veut empêcher. La prohibition s'applique aux choses que l'on veut empêcher de pénétrer dans un pays ou en exclure.
   XVe s.
   Fu envoyé un docteur juge et un chevalier de Toulouse qui porterent au prince les lettres, inhibicions et adjournemens, CHRIST. DE PISAN Charles V, III, 43.
   XVIe s.
   Samuel prie pour Saül contre defense et inhibition expresse, CALV. Inst. 690.
