azygos
(a-zi-gos') adj. et s. f.
Terme d'anatomie. La veine azygos ou, simplement, l'azygos, veine qui est située sur le côté droit et antérieur de la portion thoracique du rachis, et qui établit une communication entre la veine cave supérieure et l'inférieure.
   XVIe s.
   Ceste veine azygos ayant nourri toutes les costes, son reste descend sous le diaphragme, PARÉ II, 15.
   Terme grec signifiant qui est impair et dérive de alpha privatif, et conjoint, proprement joug (voy. joug).
