Nom des villages des Indiens indépendants, dans l'Amérique espagnole, LA PÉROUSE, Voy. t. II, p. 271, dans POUGENS.
   Esp. ranchería, endroit où se tient un rancho, qui signifie compagnie, communauté de gens qui mangent ensemble. Diez le rapporte à la même origine que le français rang.
