(ta-ra-ksa-kom') s. m.
Nom latin du pissenlit (synanthérées), ayant une trentaine d'espèces, parmi lesquelles on distingue le taraxacum dent-de-lion, dit vulgairement liondent, pissenlit, couronne de moine et dent-de-lion ; quelques auteurs l'appellent taraxacum commun, et d'autres ont confondu les genres taraxacum et léontodon, parce que le pissenlit a été le leontodon taraxacon, LEGOARANT
   Taraxacum, latin des botanistes, du grec, trouble, et, guérir : plante calmante.
SUPPLÉMENT AU DICTIONNAIRE
   TARAXACUM. - ÉTYM. Ajoutez : M. Devic, Dict. étym., rejette absolument la dérivation par le grec, laquelle est en effet peu vraisemblable. Il cite le bas-lat. tarasacon, espèce de chicorée, provenant de l'arabe tarachaqoun ( u long), pissenlit, chicorée sauvage.
