Ancien instrument de musique à vent, et aujourd'hui, spécialement, la trompette à clefs, instrument très employé dans les musiques militaires,
   XIIe s.
   Tabors et timbes et bugleraus corner, Roncisv. p. 178.
   Bugle, ancien nom du buffle (voy. buffle) ; instrument ainsi nommé à cause de sa ressemblance avec une corne.

Terme de botanique. Genre de plantes de la famille des labiées, et nom vulgaire de l'ajuga reptans, L. dite aussi herbe de Saint-Laurent.
   XVIe s.
   Bugle, cette herbe est des Latins appellée consolida petra, à cause qu'elle croist facilement en lieu pierreux, O. DE SERRES 625.
   Qui a du bugle et du sanicle fait au chirurgien la nique, COTGRAVE .
   Origine inconnue. Cette plante aurait-elle été ainsi nommée du bugle ou buffle ?
